Change is essential.
God built it into creation.
Even mountains are transformed by mighty rivers.
Ask anyone over fifty if they’re the same person they were in their twenties.
Most will laugh and say, “Thank God, no.”
Time reshapes perspective.
Experience deepens wisdom.
I recall a time when some believed skin color determined worth.
When pulpits defended segregation with Bibles in hand.
When chapter and verse were used to justify injustice.
They weren’t Godless.
They weren’t evil.
They were convinced.
And they were dead wrong.
It’s a sobering reminder:
I can follow Jesus sincerely… and still be off base.
I can quote scripture… and still miss the heart of God.
That’s why I need a relationship with God.
It’s why I must spend time in scripture myself.
A Spirit-led faith that’s not just taught, but experienced firsthand.
Not a hand-me-down faith but one forged in my personal devotion time.
Because without it, convictions are shaped more by culture than Christ.
More by echo chambers than prayer closets.
But there’s another danger too:
Picking and choosing my beliefs to suit my appetite.
Softening truth until it no longer challenges me.
Redefining holiness until it looks exactly like carnality.
Creating a watered-down gospel that trades the transforming power of the Spirit for one that asks nothing, costs nothing, and changes nothing.
That kind of change doesn’t come from seeking God.
It comes from placing a crown on my own desires.
Both extremes miss the mark.
Because traditions may change, but God’s truth never does.
God’s Word doesn’t evolve.
It stands, timeless and unshaken.
So yes, grow.
Seek out truth.
Let the Spirit guide.
Let love lead.
But never let go of the anchor.
Because the world is constantly shifting.
We need a truth that never does.
“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” — Isaiah 40:8
