Awareness
Most days, I never think about my heart.
It beats steadily, silently giving me life.
Every moment of joy and fulfillment owes its existence to that rhythm.
Yet I only notice it in extremes.
When I slow down long enough to sit in silence.
Or when I drive myself past comfort, breath quickening, heartbeat surging.
Awareness works the same way.
It hides in the background, forgotten in the rush.
But when I pause, or when I am pushed, I begin to notice.
I notice my thoughts.
I notice my daily habits, and the ones that are missing.
I notice the people around me.
And I notice God’s presence that has been here all along.
It is so easy to live on cruise control.
Numb to the beautiful and life-changing sights along the way.
Awareness is not something I gain.
It is something I must uncover.
It is a treasure I need to discover.
It was always there. I just was not looking.
And when I notice, life feels fuller.
The ordinary feels magical.
And my soul remembers the silent miracle happening with every single beat.
If this encouraged you, would you share it with someone today?
