A friend recently sent me a vlog from the Harvard Business Review on the power of boredom. It resonated deeply.
We treat boredom like an enemy.
Fill every pause.
Scroll through every waiting room.
Silence becomes uncomfortable.
But the brain tells a different story.
When distraction fades, another network switches on, the Default Mode Network.
It’s the brain’s quiet room, where scattered thoughts connect and creativity sparks.
Here’s the worst part: we don’t just rob ourselves of that space.
We rob our kids too.
We hand them endless screens, constant entertainment, noise without end.
Then we wonder why they act out.
Why attention is scattered.
Why peace feels foreign.
Some of my clearest thoughts and most transformative ideas came in silence:
A long drive without music.
A walk with no phone.
A prayer where I stopped speaking and started listening.
If I am honest, I avoid boredom like the plague.
I am way too connected.
Setting device boundaries is vital.
I need more disconnectedness in my life.
We all do.
Because boredom isn’t wasted time.
What if it’s the doorway to wisdom?
Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Stillness makes space for knowing.
And sometimes the silence we avoid is the very place God is waiting to speak.

This is awesome because it reminded me of all the times when I would go on vacation and slow my life down I would begin to feel that God would start speaking to me usually after being more disconnected from the every day routine of life. God wants to speak to us but normally we are too busy to hear his voice . Ty for reminding us to listen in our quiet times.
