In my line of business, I probably deal with AI more than most.
One thing you quickly learn is that there are different levels of reasoning. The more difficult the problem, the more reasoning you need, and usually the more it costs.
You wouldn’t call a heart surgeon to take out your trash. That would be a ridiculously overqualified resource.
But most of us don’t have that problem.
We tend to go the other direction.
We use five seconds of reasoning on something that deserves five minutes. We hear one side of a story and form an opinion. We read a headline and suddenly understand the entire issue. Someone disappoints us once and we decide who they are.
We make expensive conclusions with cheap reasoning.
Proverbs 18:13 says, “To answer before listening, that is folly and shame.”
There is wisdom in slowing down long enough to ask a few more questions.
What don’t I know? Have I heard the whole story? Could there be another explanation? Am I reacting to what happened, or what I assume happened?
Sometimes the problem isn’t that we aren’t smart enough to reach the right conclusion.
We simply didn’t spend enough time getting there.
Not everything requires heart-surgeon-level reasoning. Some things really are just taking out the trash.
But people, relationships, faith, and decisions that matter deserve more.
Good reasoning costs something.
Usually, it costs time.
If this made you think, share it with someone else.
