Freedom Isn't Free
Our culture talks a lot about freedom.
We wear it like a badge.
We post about it.
We defend it.
But most of the time, when I hear people talk about freedom,
it sounds more like permission.
Freedom to chase every craving.
Freedom to satisfy every desire.
Freedom without restraint.
But that kind of freedom often ends in chains.
I’m free to smoke a pack a day.
But if I do, am I really free?
Or have I just chosen a different kind of bondage?
I’m free to buy whatever I want on credit.
But if I’m buried in debt, that’s not freedom.
That’s slavery with nicer stuff.
A free life looks different.
Not louder.
Not wilder.
But lighter.
You can spend your life testing the limits of your chains.
Or you can break them, and never live like that again.
The truth is, freedom isn’t doing whatever we want.
It’s being free from what once controlled us.
Jesus said,
“If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
True freedom costs something.
It requires you to make choices.
And remember, your freedom cost Him everything.
