Full Ahead
I read a story recently about Venezuelan patrol boats trying to block a U.S. aircraft carrier group.
A handful of small boats pulled out in front of a floating city.
They cut across its path.
Tried to slow it down.
Tried to intimidate it.
Tried to convince the world they could alter the mighty group’s direction.
But an aircraft carrier doesn’t turn because something small tries to look big.
It doesn’t flinch when something fragile circles in front of it.
Its course is set long before the moment someone decides to stand in the way.
In the end, the carrier group kept its heading.
Kept its pace.
Never wavered.
The small boats scattered as quickly as they came.
I keep thinking about that.
Because there are days when my life feels threatened by those same small ships.
Loud fears.
Quick tempers.
Old insecurities.
Little moments that rise up fast and try to convince me they can reroute me in an instant.
They try to intimidate.
They demand attention.
They slide right in front of where I’m headed.
But they aren’t the carrier.
They aren’t the mission.
They aren’t the reason I’m moving in the direction I’m moving.
God set the course.
Grace gave the power.
And if I stay focused on that, the smaller things lose the ability to steer me anywhere.
I’m learning that most of what tries to stop me is smaller than it feels in the moment.
Shadows pretending to be storms.
Patrol boats acting like fleets.
Distractions dressing up like destiny.
I want to live like the carrier.
Steady.
Purposeful.
Full ahead.
Unafraid of small ships making big threats.
Because when God sets your heading, nothing fragile can force a turn.
