Earlier this week, I wrote about bad days. Today, I want to talk about the other kind.
Lately, I’ve been working hard. I’ve always worked a lot, but recently the pace has picked up considerably. Mainly because I’m building something. And anyone who has ever tried to build something knows there are days when you wonder if you’re making any progress at all.
But yesterday was a pretty good day.
I got some good news. Made some real progress. Checked a few boxes that had been staring at me for a while. And when I finally went to bed, I had that wonderful feeling that I’d actually accomplished something.
I wasn’t caught up, of course. Let’s not get carried away.
But I felt good. And I think that’s worth talking about.
It’s funny how much attention we give the difficult days. We replay the disappointments, worry over the problems, and wonder what tomorrow might bring. Yet when things go well, we barely stop long enough to appreciate them.
Ecclesiastes 3:13 speaks of enjoying the good of our labor and calls it “the gift of God.” (NKJV)
I like that.
Maybe part of being grateful is learning to recognize when God has given us a good day. To enjoy the satisfaction of hard work, a little progress, and the occasional answered prayer.
There will always be another problem waiting tomorrow. I’m pretty confident of that.
But yesterday was good.
And I intend to enjoy that for a little while.
