Hiding

One of my favorite games to play with the grands is hide-and-seek. When Brynn and Lily were younger, they wanted to play it over and over.

They were not particularly good at it.

Sometimes they would hide right out in the open. But I would walk around pretending I couldn’t find them, and honestly, I had almost as much fun as they did.

Apparently, I can overlook things in plain sight without their help.

There have been times in business when I’ve spent a crazy amount of effort fixing smaller problems while a much bigger one sat right in front of me. It had been there so long that I had gotten used to it. Somewhere along the way, I had accepted it.

I’ve said, “That’s just how we do things,” more than once. I’ve probably used “That’s just how I am” even more.

Once I say that, I tend to stop asking whether anything needs to change.

David prayed, “Search me, O God, and know my heart.” Psalm 139:23 NKJV.

That’s an uncomfortable prayer when the answer might be something I’ve been excusing for years.

I’m asking God to help me take another look at the things I’ve learned to live with, in my business, my relationships, and myself.

Some of them probably should have been dealt with a long time ago. And unlike the grands, they won’t come running out just because I announce it’s time for a snack.
