I write about things that I think about on a daily basis. For better or worse, our ongoing renovation project has given me a lot to think about. So a lot of that has spilled over here.
I walked in our house this week and I was taking a look at some of the edges. I have a thing with edges. Whether it’s a paint edge or a sidewalk or driveway grass edge, there is almost nothing more satisfying to me than seeing a perfect edge. Well, unless I am the one doing the work because ironically I am terrible at creating great edges. That’s why I leave the edges to the professionals.
I digress.
As I was inspecting the paint edges, I started to wish I hadn’t looked so closely.
I have noticed that in other areas of my life as well. It’s so easy to hold everyone else to the highest standard. A standard that I myself couldn’t attain in the same circumstance.
A line is a line until you are the one who has to walk it.
Recognizing perfection requires considerably less of me than producing it. Sometimes I mistake that recognition for understanding.
“He who answers a matter before he hears it, It is folly and shame to him.” (Proverbs 18:13, NKJV)
God, help me understand what I’m so quick to evaluate.
Today, I am learning to ask about the work before inspecting the edges.
