Limted-Time Offer
The phrase limited-time offer usually sounds like a marketing gimmick. It is meant to create urgency, to convince us that if we do not act now, the opportunity will disappear.
But sometimes the offer really is limited.
Our family loves Hawaii. There is something about it that feels unlike anywhere else on earth. On our first trip, my wife and I made the long drive up Mauna Loa on the Big Island late one afternoon.
As sunset approached, clouds began gathering around the mountain. At that altitude, we stood above them, looking across what seemed like an endless sea of white.
It was already breathtaking. Then the sun began descending toward the clouds.
For a few brief minutes, the sky came alive. The colors changed constantly as the sun slipped beneath the cloud line. Gold became orange, orange became red, and the whole horizon seemed to be on fire. It remains one of the most spectacular things I have ever witnessed.
And then it was gone.
If we had arrived five minutes later, we would have missed it entirely.
So much of life works that way. We tend to believe opportunities will wait until we are ready. We assume there will be another conversation, another invitation, another chance to say what needs to be said or do what God has placed on our hearts.
But some moments do not wait.
There is a limited window to sit beside a child who wants our attention. To call an aging parent. To encourage someone who is struggling. To offer forgiveness. To take a chance. To obey the quiet prompting of God before fear and distraction talk us out of it.
Scripture tells us to be wise, “making the most of every opportunity.” Not every opportunity comes with a warning that it is about to expire. Sometimes it simply passes, and only afterward do we understand how precious it was.
Pay attention to what is in front of you today. The most beautiful moments in life are not always scheduled, and they rarely wait for a more convenient time.
Sometimes five minutes is the difference between witnessing something unforgettable and only hearing someone else describe it.
“Be very careful, then, how you live…making the most of every opportunity.” Ephesians 5:15–16
If this encouraged you, please share it with someone who might need it today.
