More Than A Day
For parents, the days can feel like a race.
Work. Dinner. Homework.
Bath time. Bedtime.
Then it’s morning again.
We move fast because life demands it.
But in the middle of the motion,
it’s easy to forget what all this rushing is for.
Our job isn’t just to get through the day.
It’s to build a life.
I still remember one evening.
My sixth-grade teacher had called my dad to talk about me.
I had been a little too entertaining in class that day.
But my dad didn’t scold me.
He didn’t threaten me.
He sat down and talked to me almost like an adult.
He wanted to know what was going on.
And then he let me talk.
I didn’t feel reprimanded.
I felt respected.
And more importantly, I felt the weight of responsibility
instead of the sting of guilt.
I will never forget that night.
It made a lasting difference.
Taking time to openly talk to our kids is vital.
But not just to talk to them.
To let them speak.
To hear what is underneath their words.
Because one day,
they will remember less of what we said
and more of how it felt to be heard.
Every word we speak,
Every prayer we whisper.
Every time we choose patience instead of frustration.
We are leaving something lasting in hearts that are still soft enough to receive it.
The days feel short,
but their impact stretches far beyond us.
So today,
before the noise starts again,
please pause and remember.
You are not just raising kids.
You are building generations.
