I am the king of overthinking.
I grew up with computer code, and computers are easy. Provided the code is correct, they follow a predictable path. Give them the same input, and they’ll do the same thing every time.
So in my mind, at least, the world should work that way too. If I think through a problem enough, the solution will become obvious to me.
So I do. And it doesn’t always.
Life has a frustrating habit of including variables I can’t account for. Other people’s choices. Timing. Things I simply don’t know yet. I can keep running the problem through my head, but thinking harder doesn’t supply the missing information.
Eventually, even an amateur programmer ought to recognize a loop.
Proverbs 3:5 tells us to trust in the Lord and not lean on our own understanding. That gets personal when understanding is the very thing you keep reaching for. I’d much prefer to trust
God with a reasonably detailed explanation of what He’s doing.
But some questions stay open longer than I’d like. There may be something faithful about giving a problem my best attention, praying over it, and then allowing the rest of the day to have me.
There are people in it worth being present for, even while the answer is still pending.
