Point of No Return
I love traveling to Europe.
There’s a moment most people don’t think about.
Somewhere over the Atlantic,
the pilot hits what they call the point of no return.
Up to that point,
if something goes wrong,
you turn around and head back to the U.S.
After that point,
you don’t.
Even if there’s trouble,
even if things aren’t perfect,
going back is no longer the safer option.
You keep going.
Because forward is now closer than where you came from.
My son was on a flight to Italy not long ago.
They hit that same point over the Atlantic.
And then something went wrong.
A medical emergency.
No easy way back.
No quick fix.
Just a plane full of people moving forward
because that was the only real option left.
That made me think…
I’ve had those moments in my life.
Places where I didn’t feel ready.
Where things weren’t fully resolved.
Where part of me still wanted the comfort of what was behind me.
But something had already shifted.
I had gone too far to go back to who I was.
Old patterns didn’t fit anymore.
Old thinking felt smaller than it used to.
Old versions of me started to feel off.
And even when forward felt uncertain,
backward wasn’t really available.
I’ve had a few of those moments.
Moments where I realized…
I don’t have all the answers.
But I’m not who I used to be either.
Maybe growth is about commitment.
Choosing to keep moving
even when turning back feels easier.
Because there comes a point
where going back isn’t safe.
It’s just familiar.
And I’m starting to see that familiar
isn’t always where life is.
Forward is.
Going back would feel good for a moment.
But it would cost me everything I’ve become.
I’ve come too far for that.
What’s something in your life you know you can’t go back to?
