Reserved
This past week, I pulled into a parking lot.
I had to pick up a couple of things at the store.
In my haste, I just whipped into a space.
I got lucky.
Right up front.
Just about the time I started feeling good about myself for grabbing a primo spot…
I noticed it.
The dreaded sign.
Reserved.
I sat there for a second.
Radio playing.
Pride fading.
What felt like a win… wasn’t mine.
And it got me thinking.
We all like the idea of something being set aside for us.
A spot.
A position.
An opportunity.
Something with our name on it.
But most of life doesn’t work that way.
There are no signs.
No guarantees.
No reserved spaces waiting at the front.
Just effort.
Consistency.
Faithfulness over time.
And if I’m honest…
Some of the things I’ve wanted most
weren’t meant for me at all.
I’ve chased a few “reserved” spots in my life.
Thought I deserved them.
Thought I earned them.
Only to realize later…
they weren’t mine to take.
And forcing my way into the wrong space
always costs more than it’s worth.
These days I’m trying to be more aware.
Not everything that looks like an opportunity
is an invitation.
And not every open space
is meant for me to fill.
Sometimes the better move
is to keep driving.
