Still In The Package
Last week, while cleaning out a closet, my wife found something buried beneath a stack of pants.
It was a brand-new pair, still sealed in the original packaging. Never opened. Never worn.
That was embarrassing enough.
What made it worse was realizing that after losing weight, I could not even wear them anymore.
At some point, I had bought them because I liked them. I intended to wear them. I probably thought these are good for Sundays.
But Sunday never came.
Life moved on. My body changed. The pants stayed exactly where I left them, perfectly preserved and completely useless.
I wonder how often we do that with things far more important than clothing.
We save the good dishes. We hold back the kind words. We delay the trip. We keep the idea tucked away because the timing is not perfect. We protect the gift, the dream, the calling, or the opportunity until some future moment seems worthy of it.
But while we are waiting, life keeps moving.
There is wisdom in patience. There is also a point where waiting becomes waste.
Some things are meant to be opened. Some opportunities are meant to be taken. Some words are meant to be spoken while the person is still here to hear them.
The tragedy was not that I ruined those pants.
The tragedy was that I never used them at all.
Maybe there is something in your life still sitting in the package. Something you keep meaning to begin, enjoy, share, or give away.
Open it.
Life has a way of changing the size of things.
