The Weight of Blessings
We pray for increase.
More opportunity.
More influence.
More provision.
We assume once the blessing comes, life gets easier.
And when it arrives, we call it favor.
But Scripture never treats blessing like a reward.
It treats it like a trust.
Jesus said in the Gospel of Luke 12:48,
“To whom much is given, much will be required.”
That verse does not feel celebratory.
It feels heavy.
I have watched the church I love grow from a relatively small congregation into something that now impacts people locally, regionally, and around the world.
That growth humbles me.
Because the things I once prayed for
are now the things I must answer for.
I asked for influence.
Now I must guard my integrity.
I asked for opportunity.
Now I must steward it carefully.
I asked for growth.
Now I must grow with it.
Blessing expands the footprint.
It also tightens the accountability.
The house may be bigger.
The reach may be wider.
The platform may be higher.
But the margin for carelessness shrinks.
The weight of blessing is not meant to crush me.
It is meant to remind me.
To remind me who gave it.
To remind me why I have it.
To remind me it was never just for me.
Increase without depth eventually exposes us.
Favor without faithfulness eventually thins out.
If I have been entrusted with more,
then I must grow into it.
The real measure of blessing is not size.
It is stewardship.
And I want to carry it well.
Lord, thank You for every gift You have placed in my hands.
Forgive me for the times I have celebrated the blessing
without honoring the responsibility.
Shape my character to match the calling.
Deepen my integrity to match the influence.
Guard my heart as You expand my reach.
Keep me faithful when no one is watching.
Keep me humble when everyone is.
Let me carry what You have given
with reverence and gratitude.
Amen.
