There are some things you can’t fully know until you’ve lived them.
I knew what it was to be a son.
But I didn’t know what it meant to be a father
until the moment I held my firstborn in my arms.
The weight.
The love.
The shift in who I was.
The same is true with loss.
I thought I was ready.
But nothing prepares you for the silence.
When a loved one’s voice is no longer there.
No more questions.
No thoughtful conversations.
No warm embrace.
Some lessons can’t be studied.
They can only be carried.
And when you’ve been there,
you see the world differently.
You love with more compassion.
You sit with others in their pain
without rushing them through it.
But even in moments no one can prepare you for,
God is already there.
The Father who never leaves.
The Comforter who speaks when human voices fall silent.
Until you’ve been there, you can’t understand.
But once you have,
you find a strength that isn’t your own.
And you learn that even in the hardest and loneliest places,
you are not alone.

“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NLT
Brother, this touched me deeply. You captured something so true there are lessons we cannot learn from books but only by walking through them. It reminded me of Paul’s words, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction” (2 Corinthians 1:3–4). Loss changes us, but in that change God births a compassion and gentleness that can only come from His Spirit. David also wrote The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). What a promise that in the silence of grief, we are never abandoned. Thank you for reminding us that even in the hardest moments, we find a strength not our own, because “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). May the Lord continue to use your words to bring comfort and hope to many.
