What Happened To Color?
What Happened to Color
I find myself wondering about color.
Not the kind splashed on a wall or wrapped around a car.
The kind that reveals something deeper.
For most of history, color spoke a language all its own.
It marked identity and courage.
It carried a sense of royalty and wonder.
Kings wrapped themselves in crimson.
Cathedrals shimmered with blues more valuable than gold.
Color meant life.
Then I look around today, and the world feels washed out.
Most cars are white, black, or grey.
I am not preaching.
I have two cars and a truck, all of them white.
Not intentional.
Just the world we live in.
Homes follow the same script.
White walls.
Grey floors.
Softened tones arranged like a sigh.
We call it modern.
Sometimes it feels more like retreat.
And I cannot help but wonder.
When did we start fearing our own reflection
the bright and unmistakable one that dares to be noticed?
Maybe the world feels loud, and neutrality feels safe.
Maybe boldness invites opinions we no longer have the energy to face.
Maybe muted tones match the way many hearts feel inside.
But color still carries a pulse.
It wakes something in us.
It interrupts our sameness.
It reminds us we were created for more than a palette of caution.
And in this Christmas season,
a season wrapped in lights and warmth and wonder
I find myself remembering that God stepped into the world in full color.
Not dim.
Not muted.
A birth that lit up the night sky.
Maybe the invitation is simple.
Let your life hold more than the safe shades.
Let it be honest.
Let it be alive.
Let it stand where it stands
even if the world around it prefers grey.
