What Still Works
There’s something I’ve noticed.
People are captivated by what’s new.
The shiny penny.
The fresh idea.
The next thing.
New feels powerful.
New feels like momentum.
New feels like the answer.
And if we’re honest, there’s pressure in leadership to constantly reinvent.
To prove our value by introducing something different.
Something disruptive.
Something no one has seen before.
Innovation starts to feel like identity.
And progress does matter.
But leadership is not always about creating something new.
Sometimes it’s about carrying something faithful forward.
Holding the line.
Protecting what already works.
Resisting change that exists mostly to make us feel relevant.
Because not everything old is broken.
And not everything new is wise.
Time has a way of exposing what actually lasts.
What holds under pressure.
What survives after the excitement wears off.
What still stands when trends move on to something else.
Faithfulness still works.
Integrity still works.
Telling the truth still works.
Keeping your word still works.
Showing up consistently still works.
None of those things are flashy.
They rarely go viral.
They don’t usually get applause.
But they endure.
Some things do not need to evolve.
They just need to be practiced.
And after all these years…
They still work.
That made me think...
What timeless things in our lives have we neglected simply because they stopped feeling new?
