Words Have Weight
I hate cancel culture.
I hate that everyone seems offended by everything.
We have to guard against silencing those with whom we disagree.
But words still carry consequence.
In business.
In leadership.
In life.
As a business owner, I can say anything I want.
But there are things I could say that would cause my clients to walk away.
That would affect not just me,
but everyone who works for my company.
I have the right to speak,
but I also have the responsibility to care for my business.
I choose my words carefully for that reason.
I love my company and the people who work here and who depend on it.
That love supercedes my desire to spout off.
That is why I look to Jesus for an example.
He lived in a world just as divided as ours.
Rome ruled.
Zealots fought.
Political lines ran deep.
And yet, He refused to be pulled into it.
He chose a tax collector who worked for Rome.
He chose a Zealot who hated Rome.
Men who never should have shared a table.
But they did.
Because of Him.
Jesus showed His kingdom was bigger than politics.
Bigger than sides.
Bigger than culture wars.
And that is the responsibility I carry.
My words do not just reflect on me.
They reflect on Him.
So I want my words to lift Him higher.
To show a better kingdom.
A greater good.
Because words have weight.
And in the end,
they should point to Him.
βLet your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.β
